“Investing in South Africa’s manufacturing sector is core to our belief in the South African story and to our commitment to keeping and creating jobs in South Africa. Marley Roofing has a long history of being a well-run business that we believe fits firmly in our industrial cluster strategy of local supply to the retail, building supply, mining, and agricultural sectors,” says Thoko Mokgosi-Mwantembe, CEO and founding member of Kutana.

Nathan Rickinson, Managing Director of Marley Roofing agrees: “We believe that in Kutana we have found a partner that shares our organisational values and believes in the South African story. Together we will not grow only the Marley Roofing business but work together to help grow the South African manufacturing sector.”

The Kutana Group with its investments within media and telecommunications, food services, property, financial services, and industrial manufacturing sectors acquired Marley Roofing on 10 July 2020. This acquisition will form part of the Group’s industrial cluster which includes Atlas Plastics, Plastinternational, Herschell (greases and lubricants), and SVA Holdings (supply chain and risk management), amongst others.

Marley Roofing was previously owned by Etex, a large Belgium-based industrial company that has been shaping the roofing industry for over 65 years. The investment by a highly respected BEE team will open opportunities for Marley Roofing to extend its services to local government and support its clients with the appropriate BEE credentials.

“This partnership demonstrates our support for the government’s inclusive economic growth strategy,” explains Nathan Rickinson.

With the executive and operational team remaining in place, Marley Roofing is able to continue to provide its customers and suppliers with exceptional service levels and product performance that professionals of the building industry and homeowners have come to trust over the past few decades.
