Consulting Engineers South Africa (CESA) has announced the date for their upcoming CESA Aon Engineering Excellence Awards. This year, the event will once again be hosted virtually on Wednesday, 10 November 2021. The awards are a celebration of innovation, quality, outstanding workmanship, and professionalism.

CESA is hosting this annual event with the support of Aon South Africa, a strategic partner to CESA and a platinum title sponsor of the event for the past 22 years. The CESA Aon Engineering Excellence Awards provide a platform to showcase the important role that infrastructure plays in the sustainable development and delivery of basic services to society.

Chris Campbell, CESA CEO states, “2021 is the 49th year that we are celebrating the ground-breaking achievements of our Member Companies through our prestigious CESA Aon Engineering Excellence Awards.”

“These awards celebrate the engineering excellence that our industry brings to our society, serving to protect lives through quality infrastructure and contributing to preserving the livelihoods of many of the people in the built environment value chain and related industries” says Campbell. Through these awards CESA celebrates consulting engineers and their clients, who are the drivers of economic growth through the design and development of value-for-money infrastructure aimed at improving service delivery and in turn contributing to the upliftment of communities, alleviation of poverty and unemployment in line with the aims of our Government’s National Development Plan in alignment with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

“As a longstanding sponsor of the CESA awards, Aon has a deep appreciation of the contribution of the engineering industry to our economy and society. The fundamental shifts we have seen in the world over the past months have brought about opportunities to do things differently. We need to commit to accelerating innovation and making better decisions that lay the foundations for a more optimistic future for our clients, our communities and our businesses. In a recent Aon One Brief thought leadership piece, the theme focused on how global crises can create opportunities for organisations to solve their systemic challenges and become more resilient. Instead of accepting a “new normal,” there is opportunity for us to build a “New Better.” The CESA Engineering Excellence Awards are a fitting tribute to the consulting engineers who are doing exactly this – building a new better by embracing the risk for the opportunity that it presents, and doing things differently,” says Terence Williams, CEO of Aon South Africa.

The highly contested project award categories this year include Projects under R50-million, Projects ranging from R50 – R250-million, Projects ranging from R250 million – R1-billion, Mega Projects greater than R1-billion, Best international project and Engineering Technology and Innovation award.

The Engineering Technology and Innovation award consists of three subcategories this year, which include the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Design Excellence Award; Renewable Energy System Design Excellence Award; and HVAC Building Systems Design Excellence Award.

The Business and Development Awards categories include the Business Excellence Award, Small/Medium Company of the Year Award and Mentoring Company of the Year Award.

The individual awards consist of the Young Engineer of the Year Award, Mentor of the Year Award and the Lifetime Industry Achievement Award. The Visionary Client Award is sponsored by the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA).

“We are looking forward to celebrating excellence in consulting engineering with our member firms, their staff, clients and other stakeholders,” concluded Campbell.
