There have been cases of members being suspended due to quality issues or who resigned on their own initiative, but who have subsequently been re-accepted as members. We need to be clear about this: it is all part of the normal procedure described in our code of conduct. Companies who heed our findings and resolve the critical findings could be re-admitted as members.
If we did not allow this, we would be working against our own mission to uplift the general standard of product quality in Southern Africa.
As long as a company is a member of SAPPMA we have on-going contact and hopefully a positive influence, which obviously is not the case with non-members. We furthermore need to maintain a critical mass of responsible manufacturers in order to safeguard this extremely important industry.
Please be assured that we do all we can to maintain a level playing field and that we do not hesitate to take action against repeated transgression of the code of conduct. In the process, we are committed to transparency, objectivity and responsibility.
When all is said and done, it is important to remember that laws, regulations and inspections can only go a limited distance – in the end, we all have to rely on mutual trust and ethics.
Best regards
